I Kissed a Mule and I Liked It

Who doesn’t remember their first beer?  Well, if you follow that first beer with beers two through eight you may not remember any of them.  Take, for example, the case of Willadeene.

Willadeene

From an early age, Willadeene was that girl that would say or do just about anything for a laugh.  She was just like her older brother, Earl.  (You may remember Earl from our Mule House Party 2022 shirt with the mugshots)  Never afraid to bend the rules, always up for pushing the limit. . .  the kids were just like their father, Jimmy Don — the man who streaked across the football field of his school’s homecoming in 1994.  (Jimmy Don would later regret sharing his shortcomings with everyone in attendance — but that’s for another story)

Anyway, if a group of girls from school were going to have a sleepover, inviting Willadeene was a must.  She brought the party wherever she went.  And when Katy Hudson’s mom told her she could invite eight of her friends over for a birthday sleepover, Willadeene’s name quickly went to the top of the list.

(Rumor has it that Katy later became a singer and changed her name to Katy Perry.  This is a rumor.  One that I just made up -- hope you like it.)

Mrs. Hudson told Katy that they could have their sleepover in the barn.  She even bought them some face masks from the clearance table at CVS.  The invitations went out with the requirement that everyone had to wear their favorite animal-print pajamas.  Willadeene thought that part was awesome, since not many girls had ever seen her one-of-a-kind elephant/leopard PJs.

As the girls settled in, they emptied their backpacks.  Little did Willadeene know that her troublemaker brother Earl, had stuffed her backpack with cans of beer.  When the cans fell out, the girls gasped in disbelief.  And even though Willadeene was equally shocked, she tried to play it off as if she’d packed the bag herself.

To better prove her story, Willadeene quickly popped a top and did her best to take several big gulps.  The girls couldn’t believe it!  As for Willadeene?  She hated the taste, but loved the reaction so much that she quickly finished that first beer and was on to her second.  Within twelve minutes, Willadeene had completely downed three beers.  That's when she just got sleepy and dozed off.

“I’ve got an idea,” said one of the girls.  Peppered with a tons of giggles and howling laughter the girls took that idea and developed it into a full-on plan — one they would execute at sunrise.

Twelve hours later Willadeene finally awoke.  Thats when the girls put their plan into action.  Just as anticipated, Willadeene was more than a little foggy on what all had transpired the night before.   And wouldn’t you know it?  The rest of the group was all too happy to fill in those missing pieces for Willadeene!

“Man, I couldn’t believe it when you called Dominos and had twelve pizzas sent to your parents’ house,” said one.  Another chimed in, “well that’s nothing compared to your calling Bucky Daniels (the high school’s senior quarterback) and asking him out on a date!”   That remark was followed up by one from Katy Hudson herself who said, “yeah — and then you started calling our mule Bucky and literally kissed it”.

Wow.  That was a lot to take in for Willadeene.  And for her, the problem was that all of it sounded like something she might’ve done.  So even though she was downright shocked and embarrassed by the things she was being told, she refused to let it show.

In typical Willadeene style, she just doubled-down.  She said, “Well I knew that Earl had some friends over, and he’d asked me to send the pizzas from Dominos.  As for Bucky, he had been sending me snaps for months saying he wanted to get to know me.  And sure, I called your mule Bucky and even planted some passionate kisses on him.”

The jig was up.  All of the girls now knew that Willadeene was just blowing smoke and trying to save face.  Katy said, “That’s amazing.  You remember all of this stuff?”  Willadeene said, “absolutely I do. . .  and as for the kissing the mule?  I liked it!’

Legend has it that Katy Hudson (later Perry) wrote some song about that night.  I doubt that anything ever came of that.

Anyway, that’s a long way to go, but now you know the story behind our “I Kissed a Mule, and I Liked It” t-shirt. Make Willadeene proud and order your shirt now!
